• Contracting Authority: Regional Directorate of Village Hydraulics (Direction Régionale de l’Hydraulique Villageoise)
• Project Manager: Hydraulique Sans Frontières (HSF)
• Local Partner: The Commune of Bassar 4
Following a request sent to HSF by the Bassar 4 town hall and a subsequent exploratory mission, a study project was established to define the infrastructure and support actions required in 6 villages across 2 districts: Kawa Peulh, Tchaboua Losso, Koundoum, Sowali, Koundoum Ta, and Sanda Té.
The high school in Sanda Kagbanda, the district capital, currently lacks latrines despite serving 602 students and 30 teachers. The construction of two VIP (Ventilated Improved Pit) double-pit latrine blocks (6 cubicles each) for students, and one VIP double-pit latrine block (2 cubicles) for teachers, will accompany this first study phase.
The overall project will consist of several phases: a study phase followed by a construction phase.

1.A geo-referenced inventory of all boreholes, including piezometric measurements in 6 villages.
2.An in-depth diagnosis of broken-down or abandoned infrastructure suitable for rehabilitation.
3.Long-term flow tests, water quality analysis, and borehole camera inspections.
4.A socio-sanitary diagnosis of household water and sanitation practices among the local population.
5.Collection and interpretation of existing borehole and geophysical data.
6.Additional geophysical surveys if necessary.
7.A diagnostic of current water and sanitation management and support in defining sanitation needs.
8.Construction of 2 VIP double-pit latrine blocks (6 cubicles) for students and 1 VIP double-pit latrine block (2 cubicles) for teachers.
9.Awareness-raising sessions for students and teachers on the proper use and maintenance of the latrines.
The goal is to conduct a study to establish a preliminary design (avant-projet sommaire) for the future infrastructure needed to meet the drinking water needs of the beneficiaries.
This study will also allow for the development of an effective management system and the design of future works, training, and awareness campaigns to best address the hygiene and sanitation issues identified during the surveys.
