Madagascar Mission: Feedback on the exploratory mission conducted in Ambohimalaza at the end of 2025

Diagnosis in Ambohimalaza: Towards Quality Water for 14,500 Residents

From November 24 to 29, 2025, Jean-Claude Schuber (HSF volunteer) and Miary Ravelonjato (HSF employee in Madagascar) carried out a mission in Ambohimalaza.
The objective of this mission was to identify weaknesses in the current water supply network in order to enable optimized and sustainable management.

Situation Assessment

Despite existing infrastructure serving 8 out of the 12 fokontany, the current service is deteriorated:

  • Advanced deterioration: Significant leaks in the main supply and distribution pipelines.

  • Compromised quality: A malfunctioning filtration system.

  • Water shortages: Frequent service interruptions at the end of the dry season.

HSF Expertise in Action

Our teams inspected the entire water supply chain: from the drainage field to the reservoirs, all the way to the 400 private connections and public standpipes.
This comprehensive diagnosis is an essential step in proposing appropriate technical solutions.

HSF’s commitment: to identify the most effective technical solution to restore continuous service and provide safe drinking water to the population of Ambohimalaza.
