The Municipality of Ambohimangakely initiated the request. Two exploratory missions were carried out by HSF to meet with local authorities and assess the study area. Miary RAVELONJATO, the HSF staff member based in Madagascar, conducted several field visits and met with the MEAH and Jirama regarding this project.
A study project has been defined to identify existing infrastructure, assess needs and resources, and propose improvements for the municipality’s water supply.
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞:
•Assessment of existing infrastructure: Mapping and creation of technical data sheets for all facilities.
•Water resource monitoring: Pumping tests on existing boreholes, water quality analysis, and monitoring of water sources.
•Exploratory drilling: Geotechnical studies for borehole siting and the drilling of test wells.
•Socio-sanitary diagnosis: Conducting household surveys.
•Institutional management diagnosis: Assessing the roles of Jirama, the town hall, and village water committees.
•Provision of management tools for the town hall: Photogrammetric survey and mapping of infrastructure onto the survey data.
𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: To improve the living conditions of the beneficiary populations, to implement actions for enhancing the municipality’s water supply, and to establish sustainable management systems.
•Specific Objective 1: To establish a comprehensive assessment of existing infrastructure and water resources within the municipality.
•Specific Objective 2: To propose strategic improvements for the water supply in specific areas of the municipality.
•Specific Objective 3: To strengthen the municipality’s management and planning tools within the water sector.
•Specific Objective 4: To define a set of awareness-raising guidelines (specifications) for future users, tailored to the project context (water pricing, best hygiene practices).
