Who we are

Hydraulique Sans Frontières  is an association founded in 1990, focusing its actions on water and sanitation.

For over 30 years, our goal has been to achieve tangible improvements in the living conditions of local populations by building sustainable infrastructure tailored to their needs.

We primarily operate in remote rural areas, where access to essential services—such as safe drinking water and decent sanitation—is all too often lacking. Through field projects carried out with local partners, we help address these inequalities by providing technical and long-lasting solutions.

We place particular importance on consulting with residents to identify their actual needs and ensure community ownership of the projects. This allows us to design viable facilities that are sustainably maintained by the communities themselves. Our missions

Hydraulique Sans Frontières (HSF) supports development projects in remote and isolated rural areas in the Global South.

These projects require technical expertise in hydraulic engineering. By providing qualified volunteers, HSF helps local associations meet the fundamental needs of their populations.

Our goal is to foster community autonomy. Facilities are managed by local committees, elected by the residents themselves. After conducting surveys, HSF takes local needs and customs into account. This approach allows us to raise awareness about hygiene best practices to protect both public health and the infrastructure.

In the Global North, HSF raises awareness about the importance of access to safe drinking water through educational workshops in schools (Global Citizenship and Solidarity Education – ECSI) and regional events across Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

Our values

  • Humanism: Placing human beings and the values of respect at the heart of our concerns and actions. This encourages reflection on equality and social justice.
  • Solidarity: Feeling committed to a just cause by providing aid and support alongside others. For HSF, this means fighting alongside local partners to guarantee long-term access to safe drinking water.
  • Efficiency: Being both high-performing in terms of results and competent through the continuous optimization of resources, particularly through regular evaluations.
  • Transparency: Providing clear information to partners and donors and implementing safeguards to ensure sound financial management and accountability for the use of funds.

Our team

Founded in 1990, Hydraulique Sans Frontières (HSF) is an international development and solidarity NGO. We work to ensure equitable access to safe drinking water by providing technical support to local partner associations in developing countries.

HSF is based in Chambéry with 6 employees, 2 regional offices in Lyon and Bordeaux, and about forty active volunteers across France.
